Pinewood School Middle Campus Renovation / Los Altos' Pinewood School, serving K-12 on two separate campuses, aims to improve its facilities for Grades 3 through 6 and extend its focus on academic excellence and character development into the landscape. JLJA worked closely with CAW Architects in reorganizing the school's Middle Campus, concentrating on goals from improved student pick-up and drop-off circulation to functional and inviting multi-use outdoor areas for play, gathering, and education. Parallel to the spatial re-design, JLJA also worked to effectively direct stormwater via permeable pavers in patios, pervious concrete in the parking lot, and bio-retention basins incorporating native wetland and riparian vegetation. Highlights of the renovated landscape include an outdoor vegetable garden for teaching, planted screening for neighbors, fencing with attractive guardrail and exterior gates, integrated donor opportunities to assist with fundraising, and drought-tolerant, regionally-adapted plantings throughout.
