Ormond Beach Master Plan Vision Study / JLJA worked with Moore Ruble Yudell and the California State Coastal Conservancy to generate a master plan vision based on community workshops, a walking tour with survey, and engagement with local politicians and agency members regarding funding sources. The project approaches a neglected coastal area in Oxnard, long derided for its energy industry detritus, toxic slag heaps, and marginalized population, and re-casts it as a source of revitalization, a memorable destination, a visionary response to climate change. Linking with a neighboring wetland restoration project, the master plan proposes an alternative form of development that balances commerce, education, and sustainability while responding to multiple, fluctuating needs and concerns. JLJA's contributions centered on landscape systems and connections within the built environment, wetland preservation and restoration, education outreach, recreational opportunities, and economic sustainability for long-term viability.
