Site plan Felton Library / Conceived as a community gathering space for the San Lorenzo Valley's 25,000 residents, Felton's new library will replace its former 1,250 s.f. home in a late-19th-century church. The new library will allow for larger collection capacity, technology upgrades, and a patio that creates an indoor/outdoor space. Environmental literacy, innovative materials, and a seamless connection to the outdoors were drivers of the design. The project included pre-design for the adjacent 2-acre Discovery Park that will create trails and interactive zones while restoring Bull Creek waterway into a teaching site and model for maintaining a healthy watershed. Project scope included community meetings, public presentations, and successful partnership between SC Public Libraries, SC County Parks, San Lorenzo Valley Water District, and the community-driven Felton Library Friends. The library is funded by $10M from Measure S, the 2016 $67M libraries bond, and a one-time contribution of $1M from the State of California.
